Two questions

1. Will the unknaszero value work with routers2, would you use it in the mrtg section "option[cpu]:gauge unknaszero"

2. Is this the option that will smooth out the drops in the graph when a collection point is missed. i.e. you will see a yellow background behind the green

1. Yes. The 'unknaszero' option is used by routers2. You also have the option 'routers.cgi*Options[]: unknasprev' to set an unknown value as the previously retrieved value (this is what native MRTG does) rather than greyout.

2. Either unknaszero or unknasprev will remove the greyout bars where the data was not collected (I think that is what you mean). The unknaszero will display zero for these gaps, the unknasprev will display the previous value to give you a continuous graph. Which you use is up to you.

Note that the averages, 95th percentile and totals reported are based on the *actual* values stored, not on the graphed values, so unknaszero will not artificially skew your averages towards zero.

Looking at this issue in more depth it's the speed of cscript running from the command line, takes around 20 seconds when I run cscript (Calling WMI parameters) manually from the command line. If each CFG file with say 5 different data metrics is taking 100 seconds plus to run and I'm calling two cfg's per mrtg instance and I've got the interval set to 3.....

Powershell takes about 3 seconds to return the same output, maybe there is the answer.

Note that unknaszero and unknasprev are mutually exclusive. You can have one or the other but not both. If you specify both, I'm not sure which takes preference (checks code) ... aha, it will be unknasprev taking precedence. So in this case you can omit the unknaszero.

If you have checks that take a very long time, such as this, you should look into multithreading the checks. Unfortunately, the 'Forks: ' option does not work under windows, but you can still run multiple instances of MRTG handling separate sets of CFG files to effect multithreading.

I'm using the unknasprev in all cfg files now.

converting VBS cscript files to Powershell has resolved the issue.
I've grouped the CFG files into groups of 10 so one instance of perl excutes 10 CFG files.

I'll create a new topic and copy the Powershell scripts in there.
