We monitor our cisco router , but it didn,t monitor sub interface below is configuration, it automaticaly put #(comment before line) : ### Interface 28 >> Descr: 'Serial1/0:15' | Name: '' | Ip: '10.30.30.2' | Eth: '' ### ### The following interface is commented out because: ### * --ifref=name is not unique for this interface # # Target[192.168.255.65_28]: 28:readonlypasswd@192.168.255.34: # SetEnv[192.168.255.65_28]: MRTG_INT_IP="10.30.30.2" MRTG_INT_DESCR="Serial1/0:15" # MaxBytes[192.168.255.65_28]: 8000 # Title[192.168.255.65_28]: 28 -- yourdomain.com # PageTop[192.168.255.65_28]: <H1>28 -- yourdomain.com</H1> # <TABLE> # <TR><TD>System:</TD> <TD>yourdomain.com in </TD></TR> # <TR><TD>Maintainer:</TD> <TD></TD></TR> # <TR><TD>Description:</TD><TD>Serial1/0:15 *****dialing to Karol bagh** </TD></TR> # <TR><TD>ifType:</TD> <TD>Link Access Protocol D (LAPD) (77)</TD></TR> # <TR><TD>ifName:</TD> <TD></TD></TR> # <TR><TD>Max Speed:</TD> <TD>64.0 kbits/s</TD></TR> # <TR><TD>Ip:</TD> <TD>10.30.30.2 ()</TD></TR> # </TABLE> |

There is a command you can use on cisco devices that will keep the interface indexes constant. That however wont save you if you change or upgrade equipment. the command is snmp-server ifindex persist I had this problem, I was using SNMPc for monitoring my network and other network engineers either kept changing subinterfaces or did a few IOS upgrades on the core routers and that usually meant reconfiguring all my interface status checks as well as re-running my mrtg config makers. So I m using this command ever since and no worries. The reference by name however remains an issue for me as well, i cant manage my bri interfaces because of it. The question is can I change the reference the mrtg uses in order to avoid changing the entire config file? e.g. can i change Target[tralalainterface]: 4:xxxx@192.168.1.111: to Target[tralalainterface]: bri1:xxxx@192.168.1.111: or do i need to put this in a separate config file with the option --ifref=inteface number (cant remember the option syntax, i ll have to look it up) My guess is I have to put in the option and use the interface snmp index number. Am I correct? |
