I know this is getting a little bit out of the realm of what MRTG/Routers2 is made to do, but.... Anyone have an extention or know a trick to display the value of a specific OID? I have a switch that has multiple VLAN's. Ideally, I would like to have routers2 show which VLANs each port is a member of. I know the OIDs to obtain this data - I just can't figure out a way to display that info on the routers2 web page. I need to learn more perl maybe.

(This is a MRTG thing really) Why don't you just retrieve the value using standard MRTG Target directives? EG. Target[ezwf]: oid1&oid2:community@hostname then, if you only want a single OID, just use Options[]:noo to suppress the second line. This will graph the value(s) held in oid1 and oid2, the same as normal. This is all in the MRTG documentation. |

Good question. I don't want to graph this data. I only want to display it, perhaps on the summary page. As I said, I understand that MRTG is for graphing data - so this is probably not even possible. Thanks though! |

So, you just want to have an extra (text) line on the summary page specifying the current value? The short answer is no, you can't do it. MRTG is a history logging tool, not a status reporter or alerter (although it does support basic alerting). For that, you should be looking at something like Nagios. The longer answer is that, if you are really good at perl coding, you can fudge it by creating yourself a cgi that displayes the text, then embedding this into an IFRAME that you put into the PageFoot for that target and enable the mrtgpagefoot in the routers2.conf. I suspect this is a bit involved for you to want to go through it, though! Here, we use Nagios, and I have a routers2 plugin that allows me to embed a Nagios current status report for a device into the routers2 frame from a custom link in the Targets menu. This gives the sort of effect you want, although installing Nagios only for this puropse would be overkill. |
