MRTG has a number of bugs in previous versions. It is always a good idea to upgrade to the latest version if you have some incomprehensible problems -- this also applies to RRDTool, if you use an RRD backend.

Timezone support in MRTG and RRD is a bit patchy under Windows, due to limitations of various Windows C compilers. routers.cgi has a workaround for this, provided all your routers are in the same timezone.
